‘TOSS’ imagines the excavation of a fictional virtual midden, a repository of debris shaped by greed, extraction and exploitation. Through text, video, photographs, drawings, prints and selected artefacts, MIDDEN brings together a speculative and deliberately unscientific exhibition that reflects on humanity’s cycles of extraction, consumption and waste.
The artefacts within the exhibition are at once seductive and troubling. Their surface appeal catches the eye, but they also point towards deeper patterns of exploitation and disposal. In this imagined archive of debris, MIDDEN considers what these remnants reveal about human behaviour and the systems that produce them.
MIDDEN is the collective practice of Sarah Edmondson, Mary Martin and Niamh McGuinne. Together, they focus on the interpretation of evidence, combining fact and fiction to construct new narratives from fragments, traces and remains.
