This practical, hands-on course is designed for beginners and for those wishing to refresh previous knowledge. Taking place across two Saturdays.

2 Day course:

Session 1: Saturday 6th June

Session 2: Saturday 13th June

Participants will be introduced to their camera’s manual controls, with a focus on how aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together to create the correct exposure. The course also develops both practical and technical understanding to help participants use a digital camera more effectively and creatively.

  • A digital camera with manual controls

What You Will Learn

  • How to use your camera in full manual mode

  • How aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together to create the correct exposure

  • How aperture affects depth of field, and when to use shallow or greater depth of field

  • How shutter speed can be used either to freeze a subject or capture movement

  • How ISO changes the sensor’s sensitivity to light

  • A range of composition and framing techniques to consider when making photographs

  • An introduction to colour theory, including how colour can be used to create balance, mood and atmosphere
