This practical, hands-on course is designed for beginners and for those wishing to refresh previous knowledge. Taking place across two Saturdays.

Participants will be introduced to their camera’s manual controls, with a focus on how aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together to create the correct exposure. The course also develops both practical and technical understanding to help participants use a digital camera more effectively and creatively.

How aperture affects depth of field, and when to use shallow or greater depth of field
How shutter speed can be used either to freeze a subject or capture movement
How ISO changes the sensor’s sensitivity to light
A range of composition and framing techniques to consider when making photographs
An introduction to colour theory, including how colour can be used to create balance, mood and atmosphere
